January flew by! We really feel like a lot of progress has been made in different areas of the house. Thankfully, the weather has been pretty mild and we have been able to comfortably work during the day.
We are still working on getting heat in the house. We believe it has steam radiators, which is something we haven’t worked with before, so we want to make sure we do it right. As of last week, Ian had almost the entire house rewired for the electric. We are happy to have more light in each room!
A lot of demolition has been happening every week! Ian started off demoing the old master bathroom and then reframed it with the new size and layout. He then demoed the master closet, added insulation, and subfloor. The master bedroom is ready for new drywall, paint, and fixtures! We uncovered a portion of the chimney, which was a neat find! It is unable to be easily uncovered for the master bedroom, but we are going to have the chimney exposed in the kitchen.
The jack-and-jill style bathroom, which had water damage, was also partially demoed this past week. We have been rethinking the layout to maximize space and function. We think we figured out the best scenario and are excited to see this bathroom get updated!
Directly below the bathroom is the long corridor seen when you open the front door. It also had a lot of water damage, making it difficult to walk through safely. Ian was able to open the area up (without going through the floor!) and we are eager to build some additional walls to frame out the laundry room portion of the area.
Darla is still stripping wallpaper and we are still loving our steamer! The front bedroom has been completely stripped, and the staircase/hallway is almost done as well. The ceiling is a little hard to strip, but we are working away at it! We switch between stripping wallpaper and working on finishing touches on the third floor
In February we hope to have figured out the heating system, prepped more of the walls for drywall, and start painting! We have a good portion of the finishes picked out and we are excited to see them in place!
